Something sounds really odd with your install.  There's no obvious way that the 
rrdtool library would return such large sizes for the generated image.

Are you using the standard orcallator.cfg file?  Do you have any modifications 
in it?

You may want to try recompiling rrdtool and see if you get any odd error messages.
