I applied it and then did a small followup. It uses re.escape() to quote the
separator to be used in the regular expression (which is more generic), and
I shortened some variable names (my personal and debatable coding style).

I'll look into the bug in the other mail now. Is it possible for me to
commit to svn trunk? I don't know how the commit rules work there for
contrib stuff.
