A garbage collection benchmark would be a good dodge, seeing as how C++
can't do that.  I asked on comp.benchmarks about extant GC benchmarks,
unfortunately I haven't gotten any replies.  I'm sure perusing the
newsgroup archives would yield something.  I'm not focused on that
exercise right now though.  Right now I'm mainly kibbitzing with the
Shootout people about how to make a more fair and equitable standard
scoring system.  There are many issues... hence my brain dumping on this
list about benchmarking approaches.
