[Svnmerge] What pitfalls do I need to know about if my branch is not "recently-created"?

The quick tutorials mention in the first sentence that the branch should be
"recently-created"
when running svnmerge.py init

What should I be watching out for when my branch is older (but still never
merged with trunk)
